Hi all,
Recently i got some task to build and deploy SSRS reports.
I can successfully deploy it on my development system and cross checked it, everything is running fine.
But on my clients system, I am unable to upload the report file, it is showing the below error.
```
The report definition is not valid. Details: The report definition
has an invalid target namespace
'_http://schemas.microsoft.com/sqlserver/reporting/2010/01/reportdefinition'
which cannot be upgraded. (rsInvalidReportDefinition) Get Online Help
```
If anyone have come across this type of problem, then pls let me know.

Hi sqltech56,
I got the same problem 1 month back while deploying SQL Server 2008 R2 reports on SQL Server 2008 R1 server.
I tried a lot for any workarounds, but finally upgraded my SQL Server to 2008 R2.

And the problem got solved.

The .rdl file developed in SQL Server 2008 R2 or report builder 3.0 uses features of SQL 2008 R2 and hence can only be published to a 2008 R2 report server since they are using RDL 2010 features.

But if want a workaround for this, the try the below trick but i am not assuring you about the stability of the report.

In SQL Server 2008 R2, change the below line in the .rdl......
```
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<Report xmlns:rd="http://schemas.microsoft.com/SQLServer/reporting/reportdesigner"
xmlns:cl="http://schemas.microsoft.com/sqlserver/reporting/2010/01/componentdefinition"
xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/sqlserver/reporting/2010/01/reportdefinition">
```
to the below line which SQL 2008 R1 version uses.......
```
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<Report xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/sqlserver/reporting/2008/01/reportdefinition"
xmlns:rd="http://schemas.microsoft.com/SQLServer/reporting/reportdesigner">
```
But this simple trick is only working in case of simple reports.

Hi all,
if you are building reports on SQL Server 2008 R2, then by default it will create the .rdl files on the basis of 2010 schemas. But you can set the compatibility version of the .rdl files.

In SSRS 2008 R2, open the solution, right click on the project file name, and click properties. And the set the TargetServerVersion to SQL Server 2008.

After that deploy the report and export/download the .rdl file and upload it into 2008 R1 version, and tats it, its all done. The report will work fine.
